How long have you been living in Glen Haven?

In 2004, I stayed parttime only in a small cabin close to the General Store. I finally came on a full-time basis when we moved into our cabin on North Fork about four years ago.

What is your favorite part about winters here?

I love the silence! You feel like you own the whole neighborhood. It allows me to focus on the present moment and just enjoy the sounds of the stream, the birds, and the view. It’s very calming.

Do you have a favorite dish to prepare this time of year?

I make a Chicken Divan that is a big hit with my family! The kids all love it. I use the same baking dish each time, so everyone recognizes it as the ‘chicken divan dish (recipe on page 31).

Do you have a beauty routine that helps your skin and hair during the dry winter months?

I have naturally oily skin, and that helps quite a lot. I love to take baths each night with lavender, and I wear extra moisturizer along with sunblock and foundation.

Do you have a favorite garment you wear during winter?

I have a grey cashmere sweater that I wear all the time -- I love it!

How long have you been living in Glen Haven?

My husband Ken’s family owned a cabin out here in 1968. In 1978, Ken bought their cabin. We didn’t move out here full time, though, until 1981. Like many other cabins in the area, our’s started out small and without running water. It’s undergone several updates over the past 30 years.

What is your favorite part about winters here?

I love the peacefulness and the quiet. This community doesn’t have many year-round residents, but that is changing.

Do you have a favorite dish to prepare this time of year?

I don’t cook! My husband Ken does all the cooking. We enjoy a lot of soups and comfort foods, like chili, over the winter (recipe on page 31).

Do you have a beauty routine that helps your skin and hair during the dry winter months?

Humidifiers are a must! I also use lotion on my hands and body.

Do you have a favorite garment you wear during winter?

I wear a lot of alpaca, which is lightweight and warm. We had a company for over 30 years that took care of all the business management for area Alpaca Associations.

How long have you been living in Glen Haven?

My mom bought a cabin on Fox Creek in Glen Haven in 1942. That cabin had no running water and wasn’t winterized. I bought my own cabin in Glen Haven back in 1975, but I lived in Greeley fulltime. It wasn’t until 1990 when I purchased the cabin where I now live that I became a fulltime resident, and I’ve been fulltime ever since!

What is your favorite part about winters here?

There are fewer people on the roads!

Do you have a favorite dish to prepare this time of year?

I love to make soups with the leftover carcass from a roasted chicken. I’ll boil it in water along with all the vegetables I have on hand for a ‘dump soup’. My specialty, though, is my chocolate chip cookies (recipe on page 31)! I will cook them five at a time so that I always have some on hand.

Do you have a beauty routine that helps your skin and hair during the dry winter months?

I combine aloe vera gel and vitamin E oil and rub on my face and hands every night before bed.

Do you have a favorite garment you wear during winter?

I love Levi’s! I’ve worn them since I was able to fit into my brother’s castoff pair of denim. I was the only girl in my grade school to wear jeans.

I also love to wear handmade Norwegian wool sweaters during winter. I’ve been to Norway twelve times! My mom was first generation Norwegian and would import wool sweaters from Norway and sell them out of our home. She also would knit sweaters herself. These sweaters are built to last. Some of the Norwegian wool sweaters I own are sixty years old!
